Manatees are large aquatic mammals from the family Trichechidae. These three species reach up to 14 feet long and can weigh up to 1,300 lbs.

Normally inhabiting shallow, marshy, coastal waters around the Carribean Sea, the Amazon Basin, the Gulf of Mexico, and West Africa. However, manatees are migratory and have been seen as far north as Massachusetts during the summer months.

Research suggests that manatee are actually as skilled at experimental tasks as dolphins, but they are slower and more difficult to motivate.
